2013
2 January – Two Mourning Doves dream of the Moon setting at midmorning in the west. 5 January – Marine One with the President onboard lifts off from the south lawn of the White House---from last July’s visit to Washington, DC.
5 January – Detail from a large flock of Black Skimmers interacting at Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge.  This is an image from my new Indian River Lagoon presentation that debuts at the end of this month.  Learn more at my Indian River Lagoon program page. 6 January – Another image from the new Indian River Lagoon program, this time of a White Pelican at Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge.
7 January – This Tricolored Heron kept puffing up his feathers, most likely to try and keep warm in the early morning cold at Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge.  This is yet another image from my new Indian River Lagoon program, which I’m polishing now so these images are easily at hand. 8 January – American Avocet at Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge---from the upcoming Lagoon program.
9 January – American Bittern.  This was a fortuitous shot when the last rays of the setting Sun made their way through the heavy woods and brush to shine a beam of light right on the Bittern’s head for just a moment. 10 January – Under the right lighting conditions the iridescent feathers of the Boat-tailed Grackle can be quite stunning.  The image here only hints at the possibilities.
11 January – A kayak-level view of an American Oystercatcher wading around an island in the Indian River Lagoon.  Actually, given the size of the bird, the water here is only a few inches deep. 12 January – Roseate Spoonbill coming in for a landing – from the Indian River Lagoon program.
13  January – A Wood Stork proves that any landing you can walk away from is a good landing – from the Indian River Lagoon program. 14 January – The early morning Sun angle was just right to make a mirror of the water’s surface to reflect this Little Blue Heron hunting for its breakfast.
15 January – I love the distinctive call of the Killdeer, especially at night when Sam and I oftentimes encounter them by their call only. 16 January – A female Anhinga---note the buff colored neck---wings her way across the Indian River Lagoon.
17 January – Early morning bird conclave at Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge.  Present are Great Egrets and White Pelicans. 18 January – Looked up and was surprised to see a late afternoon photo opportunity in a cold rainy sky---seven Roseate Spoonbills flying in a clumsy group almost directly overhead at Kennedy Space Center.
19 January – Flags representing the Space Shuttle Orbiters hang in the main lobby of the Launch Control Center at Kennedy Space Center.  See photos from a return visit taken on Friday to see Firing Room #4 that includes two panoramas taken in the historic building. 20 January – Birds have to handle their own air traffic control, probably something of concern to this Brown Pelican seeing this White Ibis coming over the tops of the mangroves on the rookery island at the Oslo Riverfront Conservation Area. From the IRL program.
21 January – From the Travel Section of the slide archive --- Years ago on a visit to Atlanta we stopped by the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site where we viewed his burial place.  This was before the crypt was enlarged to include his wife, Coretta Scott King. 22 January – A falcon, possibly a Merlin, dines on a small bird at Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge.
