TDRS-L (Atlas V)
Cape Canaveral Air Force Station - Space Launch Complex 41 - 23 January 2014
A United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket lifts off carrying a NASA Tracking and Data Relay Satellite (TDRS-L) to add to the space-based communication system used to provide tracking, telemetry, and high bandwidth data return services for low Earth orbiting spacecraft and expendable launch vehicles, including the Hubble Space Telescope and the International Space Station. Liftoff occurred after a short delay at 9:33 p.m. on 23 January 2014 from Space Launch Complex 41 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. Thank you to Bob Bruce and Janice Broda for letting me use their third floor deck to capture this star-studded ultra-wide angle time exposure of the rocket streaking off over the Atlantic Ocean.
