The space shuttle Discovery lifts off with a crew of seven from Kennedy Space Center at 11:59 p.m. on 28 August 2009 on a resupply flight (STS-128) to the International Space Station. Discovery’s launch was veiled by thin clouds in this time exposure taken from Patrick Air Force Base. The shuttle is carrying more than seven tons of supplies to the station; much of it contained in the European-built Leonardo multi-purpose logistics module nestled in Discovery’s cargo bay. Discovery marks another milestone on this flight by being in orbit for the anniversary of its first launch 25 years ago on 30 August 1984. | |
