The Rainbow 1 geostationary direct-broadcast satellite for Cablevision---translated that means even more television alternatives to waste away one's time---gets a lift into orbit via the new Atlas V rocket decked out with two solid rocket boosters and an enormous payload fairing to protect the satellite on its flight through the atmosphere. This commercial launch from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station took place around 7:45 p.m. on 17 July 2003.
