OA-4 (Atlas V) 6 December 2015 |
Space Launch Complex 41 Cape Canaveral Air Force Station |
A United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket sends Orbital ATK's fourth commercial resupply mission on its way to the International Space Station carrying over 7,000 pounds of science research, crew supplies and vehicle hardware aboard its Cygnus spacecraft named the S.S. Deke Slayton II. After several days of delays due to the weather, the mission finally lifted off at 4:44 p.m. on 6 December 2015 from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.
The view from the observation deck of Exploration Tower at Port Canaveral would have been spectacular if it wasn't for the haze moving in along with the light poles in the way. Note the white, pointy top of the rocket can be seen peeking out between the buildings. By launch time, the launch pad was completely hidden by the weather with the rocket vanishing into the clouds moments after liftoff.
