NROL-37 (Delta IV-Heavy) 11 June 2016 |
Space Launch Complex 37 Cape Canaveral Air Force Station |
A United Launch Alliance Delta IV-Heavy rocket lifts a secret payload for the National Reconnaissance Office into orbit at 1:51 p.m. on 11 June 2016 from Space Launch Complex 37 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. Speculation about the payload has it being a spy satellite with enormous antennas for electronic eavesdropping.
A photo from the first launch attempt on 9 June 2016 when weather stormy weather scrubbed the launch for the day. Notice how clear this picture is in relation to all the rest that follow that were taken on 11 June. The first attempt had cool temperatures and little to no haze while the second attempt had hot weather and haze more typical to a Florida summer that caused excessive heat distortion blurring the image when the rocket was close to the ground.
