An Atlas 3B rocket carrying the EchoStar 7 direct broadcasting satellite launches from Space Launch Complex 36 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station at 7:43 a.m. on 21 February 2002 while helicopters from Patrick Air Force Base patrol the perimeter to provide security for the launch.
