Endeavour Fly Out 19 September 2012 - Kennedy Space Center Page Three of Four |
|
As the SCA taxied to the north end of the runway it was followed by a NASA T-38 with a photographer in the backseat to document Endeavour's ride around the Space Coast as Endeavour was flown south to Patrick Air Force Base along the beach and back again before flying over landmarks at Kennedy Space Center.
The T-38 lifts off into the disturbingly dark sky. Thick clouds were obscuring the Sun from helping out all the photographers on the scene.
Starting clockwise at upper left, the SCA lumbers down the runway for takeoff.
Endeavour begins her last airborne journey as people on the SLF control tower observation deck photograph the end of an era. The SCA lifted off at approximately 7:22 a.m..
The C-9 Pathfinder and the T-38 followed behind the SCA as it lifted off the runway.
A view of the crowd lit by the Sun trying to break out from behind the clouds. Everybody is waiting for the SCA and Endeavour to return from their short hop down the coast where the pair flew at 1,500 feet to give people along the way a good view.
When the pair returned they looped around to fly over the Vehicle Assembly Building and launch pads. Here the pair are seen in the hazy distance between the raised aerials from several of the television news vans at the SLF. Note the T-38 trailing behind. Go to Page Four of Four > > >
